Poultry Feed Milling & Storage Equipment

Making your own poultry feed on the farm is one of the most direct ways to cut feed cost, which is the single biggest expense on most Indian layer and broiler farms. Surya Poultry Division, a manufacturer based in Hisar, Haryana since 1996, builds the full range of on-farm feed milling and storage equipment so you can grind, mix, pellet, store and bag your own rations instead of buying finished feed bag by bag.

This category covers everything from a single machine to a complete plant:

  • Grinders and hammer mills for crushing maize, bajra and other grains, from a 3 HP Hammer Mill / Feed Grinder for small units up to an Industrial Hammer Mill rated 3 to 20 TPH.
  • Feed mixers including the Vertical Feed Mixer for small batches, the Horizontal Feed Mixer (300 kg batch), the 500 kg horizontal mixer, and a combined Mixer-Grinder Plant from 500 kg to 1 ton.
  • Pellet mills and crumblers such as a Pellet Mill at roughly 1 TPH and a Pellet Crumbler to break pellets into chick crumble.
  • Feed storage silos in GI and FRP, from a small 3 to 5 MT farm silo up to Bulk Feed Silos of 20 MT and above.
  • Conveying, weighing and bagging including screw conveyors, bucket elevators, platform weighing scales and automatic weigh-and-bag machines.

If you are scaling up, ask about the Turnkey On-Farm Feed Mill Plant (1 to 3 TPH), which combines silo, hammer mill, mixer, pellet mill, cooler, elevator and bagging in one line. Tell us your bird numbers, daily feed need and whether you want mash or pellet, and we will suggest the right capacity. All enquiries and quotes are handled directly on WhatsApp.

How to choose on-farm feed milling and storage equipment

Start by matching the equipment to your daily feed need, not just your bird count. A small backyard or starter unit may only need a Vertical Feed Mixer and a 3 HP hammer mill, while a mid-size farm typically moves to a 300 kg or 500 kg Horizontal Feed Mixer paired with a larger grinder.

  • Throughput first: Pick grinding and mixing capacity (kg per batch or TPH) that comfortably covers your daily ration so the mill is not running all day.
  • Mash vs pellet: Add a Pellet Mill and Pellet Crumbler only if you want pellet or chick crumble; mash setups are simpler and lower cost.
  • Storage: Size your silo to your refill cycle. GI silos suit most farms; FRP silos resist corrosion in humid or coastal conditions.
  • Material handling: Screw conveyors and bucket elevators reduce manual lifting once volumes grow.
  • Weighing and bagging: A platform weighing scale keeps batches accurate; an automatic weigh-and-bag machine helps if you bag 25 to 50 kg sacks regularly.

If you plan to expand, it is often cheaper to plan for a turnkey line from the start rather than adding machines piecemeal. Surya has manufactured poultry equipment in Hisar since 1996 and can advise on a layout that grows with your farm. FAQs

Common questions

Is it worth setting up an on-farm feed mill in India?

For most commercial layer and broiler farms it can be, because feed is usually the largest running cost and mixing your own ration lets you control ingredient quality and price. The break-even depends on your bird numbers and local grain rates. Send us your flock size and feed consumption on WhatsApp and we will help you work out a sensible capacity, from a single mixer to a turnkey plant.

What is the difference between a hammer mill and a feed mixer?

A hammer mill (or feed grinder) crushes grains like maize and bajra into the right particle size. A feed mixer then blends that ground grain with soya, minerals and other ingredients into a uniform ration. Many small farms start with a Mixer-Grinder Plant that combines both, while larger units use a separate hammer mill and horizontal mixer.

Should I make mash or pellet feed?

Mash is simpler and cheaper to produce and is common for layers. Pellet feed reduces wastage and can improve intake, which suits broilers, and you would use a pellet mill plus a crumbler to make chick crumble. We can supply either route depending on your birds; message us on WhatsApp to discuss.

What size feed silo do I need?

It depends on your daily feed usage and how often you want to refill. Surya makes GI silos from about 3 to 5 MT for small farms, mid silos of 5 to 10 MT, bulk silos of 20 MT and above, and FRP silos in roughly 0.8, 3.5 and 10.5 MT. Share your daily consumption and we will recommend a capacity.
