How to choose your poultry shed system

Two questions decide most of the build: your climate and whether you want an open-sided or environment-controlled (EC) house.

• Open-sided (deep-litter) sheds are the lower-cost route and still the most common in India. You frame the shed with a Shed Structural Steel Kit, roof it in GI or FRP, and manage temperature with HDPE side curtains raised and lowered on a winch. They suit broilers and layers in most of Haryana, Punjab, UP and Rajasthan where land is available and budgets are tight.
• Environment-controlled (EC) sheds use PUF-insulated walls and roof, tunnel ventilation and cooling pads so you control temperature year-round and stock at higher density. They cost more per square foot to build but give steadier performance in extreme heat and are increasingly preferred for high-bird-count commercial layer and breeder operations.

Roofing: which sheet for which job

• PUF panel gives the best insulation and is essential for EC houses; thicker cores (75 to 100 mm) for the hottest zones.
• GI corrugated is the workhorse for open sheds; pair it with a Roof Ridge Ventilator to pull hot air out.
• FRP corrugated (translucent) lets in daylight and stays rust-free, useful for side runs and skylight strips.

Sizing and orientation

As a general guide, broilers need roughly 1 sq ft per bird in open housing and layers in deep-litter need more; cage systems change this completely. Sheds are usually oriented east-west so the long walls face north and south, reducing direct afternoon sun. We can advise on width, ridge height and curtain layout for your site.
